Randonnée pédestre : 9 essentiels à se procurer

What better way to explore the beauties of autumn than to go hiking! An accessible activity, often free of charge and possible everywhere near you, all regions offer places for all types of hikers. Whatever you like, from very high mountains to flatter trails, being well equipped will allow you to fully enjoy your hike.

1. A comfortable rucksack

It allows you to be comfortable throughout the day. There’s no better way to find the right backpack than to try out several. Do some tests, ask the sales assistant to put some weight in your bag as if you were leaving for a few hours. You will see how the shoulder straps fit on your shoulders. Also consider the practicality of the bag. You will probably like to have a bag with several different compartments for quick access to your equipment.

2. Boots to keep your feet dry

Get off to a good start with a quality boot. This will keep you dry throughout your hike, whatever the weather conditions. So look for waterproof and breathable boots. Also do comfort tests in the shop. Choose a boot that is slightly larger than too small. Your feet will probably swell during your ascent.

3. Sticks to reduce impact

Walking poles are a very useful accessory and there is a wide range available. Some are more or less light or more or less firm. They will reduce the impact on your knees and all your joints.

If you plan to use them only downhill, choose a model that retracts and is easy to store. When you buy, find out about the different types and components of poles.

4. A waterproof coat for all occasions

A must-have for autumn hiking: the waterproof coat. Look for a membrane that is breathable as well as waterproof. This will keep you warm without getting soaked on the first climb. Choose a medium fit. This will allow you to add several layers under your coat.
