Choisir le bon soutien-gorge de sport : 4 étapes pour ne pas se tromper

Buying a sports bra is a fairly significant purchase and it is essential to make the right choice! How can you find the right comfort and support for your activities? Whether you have decided to start training, or you are simply looking for comfort in your activities, here is a comprehensive guide to help you make a choice.

1. Assess your need for support

Determine your support category

We tend to believe that the choice of bra is based primarily on the size of the breasts, but this is completely wrong. No matter the size of your breasts, they need the right support to avoid injury. So, what is your favorite activity? This is the first question you should ask yourself before starting the selection process. Depending on your answer, you will be able to assess the level of support required. If you practice different activities, opt for maximum support for greater versatility. Of course, if your budget allows it, you could have several sports bras and choose the right one for the activity.

2. Choose the type of sports bra

Encapsulation – Light support

Just like the classic bra you wear every day, this one consists of 2 individual cups that encompass each breast separately. For this reason, they are preferred during activities that have minimal impact. It does not compress the breasts, gives them a more natural look and allows for some movement in the bust.

Compression – Medium support

This is the most common sports bra model! The principle is very simple: it compresses the breasts (to varying degrees) to hold them in place. The compression model is perfect for medium-impact sports and activities.

Compression and encapsulation – High support

This model combines the two processes for maximum support. You will therefore find the comfort of the encapsulated bra and the performance of the compression bra. The bra that uses these 2 technologies often has a fastener at the back to allow you to adjust the size of your bust. Some models, like the one above, also offer the possibility of adjusting and tightening the straps for even more support.

3. Select the correct size

To choose the right size sports bra, all you have to do is take a few measurements and then choose your size. The trick is to try on more than one model.

Tip: Jump in place, moving from left to right. Move your arms. Your bra should not move and your breasts should stay in place!

4. Make the right adjustments

Band
It should be tight, but not too tight! You should be able to fit two fingers between your ribcage and the elastic band of your bra. If you want more support, choose a wider band. Try raising your arms above your head. If your bra rides up, the band is probably too small. Choose a size up.

Suspenders
They should not be too elastic to provide maximum support and reduce impacts and up and down movements. Like the band, you should be able to fit 2 fingers between the top of your shoulder and the suspender. The wider the shoulder strap, the better it will distribute the weight on your shoulders. If you have a large bust, choose a wider shoulder strap rather than too narrow. Try moving your arms to check that they are secure and do not fall off.

Straps and adjustable band
As mentioned, the straps and band are usually adjustable on the encapsulated bra. When adjusting the straps, keep in mind the guideline of 2 fingers’ space.

Cups
You should fill the cup completely. If the fabric tends to stick out, you have chosen a size too small. If the fabric gathers, you have chosen a size too large.

Finally, no matter which model you choose, keep in mind that comfort is paramount and that our advice should simply be used as a guide. One last tip: put a T-shirt or camisole over your bra to check that you like the effect. Your choice is now complete!

Enjoy your training and don’t forget to have fun!
